ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Both treks offer fantastic views of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu; but the big difference between them is the height and the time it takes to do the walk; For example, in the case of the Huayna Picchu hill, it has a height of 2,700 m and the Inca citadel is at a height of 2,400 m; so you climb 300 m. this can take between 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours to go through it. Everything depends on the physical state of each person to this we will add; that the walk is steeper and narrower and much of the route is made up of stairs carved into the living rock and with cables so you can lean on them.

In the case of Machu Picchu mountain, the walk is longer; because Machu Picchu mountain is higher than Huayna Picchu with a height of 3200 m. That is why you will have to climb 800 m above the Inca citadel, this can take between 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours to do the walk, everything will depend on the physical condition of each person. On this route the path is less steep and has stairs; making it less dangerous and more comfortable when walking.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO VISIT THE TWO MOUNTAINS IN THE SAME DAY?

If it is possible to do both walks in one day; but this is not recommended because the entry times to the mountains are very close. It is very difficult to combine both mountains in a single day; In addition to this, another point to take into account is your physical state; since both mountains require a lot of physical effort and climbing both could leave you exhausted.

You should keep in mind that the complex’s opening hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; so by trying to climb both summits, you could lose a lot of time that you can use touring the Inca citadel of Machupicchu; which, after all, is the most important attraction for which thousands of tourists come daily.
